"The Divorce Insurance" has a chaotic Product Development team and I am here for it
We also have "Way Back Love" that is giving me more feels than I thought it would. I'm not used to this. Someone please make the ending a happy one.
My new favorite rom-com, “The Potato Lab”, recently wrapped up and OH BOY. Was there a divide about its ending! Personally, I liked it. I thought that both leads had overcome their own personal issues and had grown as people, allowing them to forgive parts of themselves, enough to make room for changes, forgive those who had hurt them, and become better individuals. This gaping hole on my weekends makes me miss the potato gang, MK, and Baek Ho. 😩
“The Divorce Insurance” has a chaotic team like “The Potato Lab” and I’m here for it!
Thank goodness I got started on “The Divorce Insurance.” Not gonna lie: I started with this kdrama because of Lee Dong Wook, my first ever kdrama crush from “My Girl” way back in the mid-2000s. I did enjoy “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” and “Wild Romance.” My other favorites of his are “Strangers from Hell” and “A Shop for Killers.”
The first episode felt slow but I wanted to find out the female lead’s back story, as well as the male lead’s story on his previous three marriages. The female lead, Kang Han Deul, is recently divorced and obviously struggling to start a new chapter of her life. (Her ex-husband is not a loss; not with the way he’s treating her.) She starts working as an underwriter in the same company as the male lead, Noh Ki Jun.
Noh Ki Jun is part of an insurance company’s Product Development team and is pushing for his novel idea: divorce insurance. Together with his teammates, he works hard to see this product become a success. I’m intrigued about his three previous marriages. What made him and/or the ex-wives give up on their marriage?
As the story unfolds in equal parts chaotic + funny and wistful + weepy, “The Divorce Insurance” shows us glimpses of the main leads’ personal lives that made them who they are right now. I think this kdrama blends funny and wistful in a good way. If you enjoy a series that isn’t too serious but has its dramatic moments, then you might want to give this a try.
Also? The Product Development team is pretty chaotic, and I sometimes wonder how they actually get things done and if they’ll pull off this divorce insurance proposal. 😂 They have the ever-cautious and always-backed-by-data Ahn Jeon Man and a new director who turns out to be Ki Jun’s ex-ex-ex wife, Jeon Na Rae. Putting these two in the same room has been unexpectedly funny and cute. 😁 They also have Na Dae Bok, their team leader, and Jo Ah Yeong, a team member who’s determined to stay single and even wants to hold a sologamy. There is never a dull moment with this bunch, that’s for sure. 😆
“Way Back Love” is giving me all the feels, for better or for worse
Have you heard of the story where you meet your first love again after four years, only to find out he’s a grim reaper? That’s what we have for “Way Back Love” and more. Oh, so plenty more.
This kdrama is only six episodes short and its last two episodes will air this Thursday. I’m already bracing myself for an ugly cry. 😭
“Way Back Love” shifts between showing us the past and the present. We see how the main leads, Ram Woo and Hee Wan, start to get close to each other in spite of their differences. Ram Woo is quiet and reserved; prefers to be alone and only has one friend, Hong Seok. Hee Wan, on the other hand, is bubbly and carefree. As they clash in the beginning, their friendship continues to grow the more they spend time with each other.
What started their friendship was exchanging names with each other as part of an April Fool’s prank in school. From there, Hee Wan decides that she’ll continue to use Ram Woo’s name because she feels like she’s been lucky ever since she started using it.
We get to see cute, funny, and sweet moments between the two. This makes it all the more hard for me to see the present-day Hee Wan, who is like an empty shell of her former self. When Ram Woo comes back as a grim reaper, the things he says and does for and with Hee Wan tugged at my heart. Their present-day moments together are beautiful and feel so precious. You just have to be there and watch it. 🥹
Oh, yeah. I did try watching “Hyper Knife”, and while it was intriguing, I just couldn’t connect with the main female lead. I did finish episode one, which was a great pilot episode. I think it’s just not the kind of kdrama that I’m in the mood for right now. I’ll probably watch it in the future, though.
“Karma” kdrama is a solid one! I’m at the third episode, but the reason I didn’t write about it here is because I had it on pause. It’s interesting, for sure, but I think I need something light right now.
I’m looking forward to “The Haunted Palace” and “Heavenly Ever After.” Maybe I’ll talk about them in the next post. Until then, I hope your kdramas are making you happy and sleeping more soundly at night (or morning). 🙂
Have a great April! ✨
Hahaha Julian 😂 yeah I loved the drama because of the female lead. She was so peculiar yet funny and lovable! I listened to the soundtrack all the time too hahaha I sometimes miss the super dramatic music they used to use back in the day haha definitely rewatch it!
Ooh I'll definitely give The Divorce Insurance a try! My Girl was my FAVORITE kdrama growing up. I even have the DVD set haha I watched it so often. I didn't have much interest in him in there tbh but as an adult I really appreciate how much of a green flag his character was during an era of toxic manly men lol. I like the female lead too! Wow they're all Lees I just realized.
